Step 1: Choose Your IELTS Type

Step 2: Select the Mode – Paper-Based or Computer-Delivered


IELTS is offered in two formats:

Paper-based test

Computer-delivered test (except for the Speaking section, which is always face-to-face)



Step 3: Choose Your Test Location and Date


Browse available test centers and dates based on your preference.

Step 4: Fill in Personal Information

Provide accurate personal details as per your passport – including full name, date of birth, ID number, address, and contact details.
Note: Passport is the only accepted ID for Indian candidates.




Step 5: Registration Details Section

This section captures all your personal and passport details:
ID Document Type: Choose “Passport” from the dropdown. A passport is mandatory for Indian candidates.

ID Number, Validity, and Date of Birth: Enter your passport number, its expiry date, and your date of birth exactly as printed on your passport.

Title and Gender: Select your appropriate title (Mr./Ms./Mrs.) and gender.

First Name and Last Name: Fill in your first (given) name and last name (surname) as per the passport. For example:

First Name: Ujjwal
Last Name: Suri
Email and Confirm Email: Provide a valid email ID. Double-check by re-entering it in the confirm field to avoid communication issues.

Mobile Number and Confirm Mobile Number: Enter your 10-digit active mobile number and confirm it.

Telephone: Optional, but you can provide an alternate contact number if available.
Address: In the next part of the form (not shown in the image), you’ll be asked to provide your current residential address with postal code.

Ensure that the passport copy you upload matches exactly with the information entered here.
Use a professional email ID that you check frequently, as this is how IDP/British Council will communicate test updates.

Step 6: Upload Your Passport Copy

Scan and upload a clear copy of your valid passport. Make sure all details are visible and the file is within the size limits mentioned.

Step 7: Pay the Registration Fee

Complete the payment using debit/credit card, UPI, or net banking.
As of now, the IELTS fee in India is approximately INR 17,000 as of now (subject to change).

Step 8: Receive Confirmation

After successful payment, you will receive a confirmation email and SMS with your test details – including the test center address, reporting time, and Speaking test date (which might be scheduled separately).

Step 9: Prepare for the Test
